Admissions
Process
For the 2010-11 school year, RiverRun welcomes
applications for students who will be entering the 1st to 5th grades.
New York State’s customary
cutoff date of December 1 is used to determine grade appropriateness (e.g. a
child is expected to be 6 years old by December 1 to enter into the first
grade).
RiverRun has a multi-step admission process.
Families are encouraged to attend an open house and speak with the
Admissions Coordinator to gather information about our programs and policies
and to explore the match between student, family, and school. Upon mutual
interest, the family shall be invited to schedule a classroom observation
and further “Q&A” with the Admissions Coordinator.
Following this step in the admissions
process, a completed application
form along with a $50 non-refundable application fee must be submitted
for a child to be considered for admission. Upon review of the application,
the prospective student shall be invited to RiverRun for a classroom visit.
Following which, the family shall have the opportunity to meet with the
directress. Within three weeks and receipt of the student’s transcripts,
the family shall be notified regarding a decision about acceptance.
In some instances, there may be an additional
need to contact the child’s previously attended school. If that is the
case, it shall be discussed first with the family, and the family shall be
informed that notification regarding acceptance may be delayed until
necessary information is obtained.
Acceptance is based on a good match between
the child and the school, as well as family commitment to Montessori
education and the child's likely long-term attendance at RiverRun. Upon notification of acceptance, a $400
non-refundable registration deposit (applied toward tuition) is required
within three weeks to guarantee enrollment. Once this three-week time period has expired,
enrollment will take place on a space-available basis.
Once an applicant is accepted, ongoing
enrollment is contingent upon the mutual satisfaction of both the family
and the school.
RiverRun does not discriminate on the basis
of race, color, or national or ethnic origin in its administration of
admissions policies, educational policies, or scholarship programs.

Note
regarding bus transportation: If you would like your child to
be transported to RiverRun by your public school district, an appropriate
request form must be filed annually with the district’s transportation
department by April 1st for the upcoming school year. If the request is made
by the deadline, the district is required under state education law to
provide transportation if you reside within 15 miles of the school. After the deadline, it is provided at the district’s
discretion. If you are uncertain about your plans, it is recommended that
you file the request by the deadline and then withdraw it at a later date if
necessary.
“If we could say, "We are respectful and
courteous in our dealing with children, we treat them as we should like to
be treated ourselves," we should have mastered a great educational principle
and be setting an example of good education.” - Maria Montessori
