Job Opportunities - Head Directress Job Description (Elementary and Primary)

To administer a traditional Montessori curriculum which fosters the education of students, while respecting and accommodating each student’s individual developmental needs.  To provide arrangement of the classroom environment and leading of individual or group lessons in a manner which implements a whole-child approach, considering the intellectual, physical, creative, and spiritual dimensions of each student.  To support the mission, goals, and key components of RiverRun Community Montessori.

 Classroom

  • Maintain accurate student records of attendance
  • Ensure students hand in take home folder daily
  • Guide students as needed in choosing appropriate works
  • Foster students’ concentration by protect working students from interference by others
  • Give individual and small group lessons
  • Observe individual work and record daily
  • Supervise, educate, and utilize the Assistant Directress and/or Interns
  • Incorporate dismissal routine as a calm Montessori activity

School 

  • Attend scheduled staff meetings
  • Confer with Head of School as requested or as needed
  • Observe potential students during pre-admission visits and provide feedback to Head of School
  • Assist in maintaining organization of storage areas
  • Assist with preparation of AMS affiliation and/or accreditation procedures

Parents 

  • Respond to parent notes and/or concerns in a timely manner
  • In conjunction with the classroom coordinators, determine needs for classroom volunteers
  • Prepare individual student progress reports twice a year for parent/teacher conferences
  • Provide information on classroom activities and content themes to Head of School for inclusion in monthly newsletters

Community

  • Foster interest in the greater community among children 
  • Support “going out” trips
  • Work with Head of School to identify and implement activities fostering on-going relationships between students and community groups
  • Participate in community building activities, including but not limited to:

Open Houses
Orientations
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Information Workshops
Classroom Events
Whole School Events
School Fundraisers
Teacher workshops, when provided

Other

  • Attend professional development seminars
  • Observe other Montessori or non-traditional schools two times per year
  • Maintain Child/Adult CPR and First Aid certification
