The Director of School is expected both to provide knowledgeable, collaborative oversight of Montessori academics and to manage the myriad daily operations of a small school. The Director of School reports to the Board of Trustees and is responsible for oversight of all academic, extracurricular, enrollment, retention, and personnel matters, as well as management of the school budget, reporting and compliance, and external relations. The Director is the public face of the school, and represents the school’s interests whether at public events, interviewing prospective students, or in daily communications with families. The successful candidate must enthusiastically support the school’s mission of educational excellence in a Montessori environment and must be committed to that mission in all aspects of the school’s daily operations, building upon the significant accomplishments of the past decade. The Director of School will possess an educational vision to take the school forward in the 21st century.

Substitute Teachers
 
The classroom substitute teacher is responsible for assisting our head directress in either our Primary class (ages 3-6 years), Lower Elementary Class (grades 1-3), Upper Elementary Class (grades 4-6), or Middle School (grades 7-8) as the need arises.  S/he will help administer the Montessori curriculum and will provide a warm, nurturing, safe, and peaceful learning environment.  Responsibilities may include handling nap-time, preparing children to go outside, assisting young students in the restroom, or supervising recess/lunch.  S/he will work under the guidance of the head directress.
 
Minimum qualifications include a familiarity of the Montessori philosophy, a genuine love of children, and a strong team spirit.
 
This is an “as-needed” position of approximately 4-7 hours/day.  We generally follow the Niskayuna School district calendar and snow day schedule.
